Denver’s Spring Snow Storms

spring storm tree damage

Sometimes the weather in Denver is pretty amazing. Denver had a warm and sunny Saturday and four inches of snow between Sunday through Monday. If it had snowed more, the tree damage across the city would have been significant because the deciduous trees had leafed out. Heavy snows collects on the leafs and break branches.

The best way to protect trees from snow storm damage is periodic tree trimming. Homeowners with soft wood tree like cotton woods, ailanthus (Chinese locust), catalpa, and silver maples should consider have their trees trimming back to their strongest branches. The trees are then more capable of withstanding Denver’s late spring and early fall snow storms. Tree trimming also opens the tree canopy letting in more sunlight, which promotes healthy growth.
